Even fractures measuring a fraction of a centimeter can be spotted quickly by Eklin’s RapidStudy digital radiography (DR) system. This 10.0 centimeter-wide frog was radiographed at one of the United States’ leading zoos. The amazing resolution of the Eklin radiograph was further enhanced by the ability to electronically enhance and magnify the image making the fracture to the left hand instantly apparent. Actual measurement of the broken metacarpal is 0.2 cm across. Also, note the minute bubbles in the lung sacs. Images like these can be captured in seconds, automatically stored, archived and retrieved at the touch of a button or screen using the Eklin Digital Practice® platform. The entire patient history, medical record, financial and other information is also as easily available using Eklin’s VIA+ patient information management system (PIMS). If Eklin can help spot an injury this small, imagine how we perform in a more conventional practice! The Eklin Digital Practice when performance and workflow count. |

Mummy Another Eklin Discovery Eklin Medical Systems joined Stanford University to provide over 20,000 CT and digital radiography images, which captured spectacular detail of a 2,000 year old mummy's anatomy. The project is part of a joint scientific research project involving the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum, Silicon Graphics, Inc., Siemens and Stanford. Since it was critical that the mummified Egyptian child be preserved, not unwrapped or invaded in any way, Eklin’s portable technology was perfect for the project. Eklin was able to produce detailed, 3-D views of what is inside the mummy without causing any damage to it. Less than three feet tall and born about the same time as Jesus, the mysteries surrounding a mummified Egyptian child, which has been in the United States since the 1920s, are finally unraveled with the help of modern medical imaging. At Eklin we are helping to discover extraordinary things. |

Koko Koko, a gorilla famous for her communication skills and love of kittens, wasn’t feeling well and was in need of medical attention. When Koko the gorilla used American Sign Language to tell her teacher Dr. Penny Patterson that her mouth was in pain, 12 specialists, including three dentists, sprang into action. Eklin was a pivotal part of the team providing a state-of-the-art portable digital radiography system to determine Koko’s medical issues. In an Eklin second, doctors were able to exam Koko’s chest, elbows, wrists, knees and mouth. Using the RapidStudy EDR5 system, Eklin was able to help discover the problem an abscessed tooth. Koko was treated and has recovered nicely but she misses the special meals she received during her recovery including a “gorilla ice cream sundae” consisting of soy ice cream and chocolate sorbet on a bed of soft tofu! |
