Exceeding expectations

When Upstate Veterinary Specialists (UVS) in South Carolina became the first veterinary hospital in the state to offer digital radiology (DR), they knew they had truly stepped into the twenty-first century. Using technology not yet available in many human medical facilities, UVS now captures radiographs digitally, allowing them to be transmitted to any computer in the hospital as well as to radiologists at other locations within seconds. With Eklin’s Digital Practice system, the process is much faster causing pets much less stress.

“Our practice is solely referral based,” said Dr. Jevens. “The referring veterinarians know we employ the best and latest technology for their patients. This isn’t inexpensive technology, however, the RapidStudy system has also exceeded our economic expectations. Our patient throughput has increased dramatically and we have been able to practically eliminate time consuming re-takes.”

Dr. Jevens also indicated his decision to install Eklin systems was highly influenced because of the leading technology from the human medical field which Eklin adapted to veterinary care. Additionally, he believes the RapidStudy system provides a dramatic increase in image quality allowing for more accurate diagnoses.

“It was important to us to use the best in proven human medical technology for our patients versus technology from other origins such as industrial,” said Dr. Jevens. “This advantage becomes readily apparent in the image quality, workflow and subsequent diagnoses.”

Dr. Jevens, a native of Ireland, holds a degree in Veterinary Medicine from University College, Dublin, Ireland. He spent his internship at North Carolina State University and his surgical residency at Michigan State University. Dr. Jevens is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons
