AUBURN UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF VETERINARY MEDICINE INSTALLS LEADING EKLIN DIGITAL RADIOGRAPHY TECHNOLOGY

Top Veterinary Radiology School First in Alabama to Acquire RapidStudy™ DR Systems

Auburn, AL – August 8, 2005 – Auburn University, College of Veterinary Medicine, one of the oldest veterinary care colleges in the country, announced the Section of Radiology has installed three RapidStudy™ digital radiology (DR) and the Digital Practice® systems from Eklin Medical Systems, Inc. Auburn is the first in the state and the tenth major veterinary college to acquire the Eklin system which employs the world’s leading medical DR technology.

"The College of Veterinary Medicine provides veterinary care to more than 14,500 patients per year at the campus," said John T. Hathcock, DVM, DACVR, section head of Radiology. "Serving both the Small and Large Animal Hospitals at Auburn, we are committed to providing the leading radiography technology. Eklin’s RapidStudy and Digital Practice systems are well known for outstanding image quality plus workflow efficiencies."

Considered one of the top veterinary schools in the country, the College of Veterinary Medicine is the nation’s seventh oldest. It has graduated more than 5,600 doctors of veterinary medicine and has alumni in all 50 states. In addition to DR, the college’s Section of Radiology offers examinations with ultrasound, nuclear medicine, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging as well as radiation therapy treatments. All of the images from these digitally acquired diagnostic radiology modalities are stored on a computer and able to be viewed throughout both the large and small animal hospitals.

"It is key that we can integrate all of our digital images and make them available throughout our facilities," Hathcock said. "Eklin’s Digital Practice® and the EklinVault enable us to quickly integrate all digital images and send these between our facilities at the touch of a mouse. This will help us to quickly make a diagnosis and begin treatment."

Just as digital cameras have made photography more efficient by eliminating film, the Eklin RapidStudy DR system provides the veterinarian with a radiographic image that can be viewed immediately on a high-resolution monitor without need for film development. The Eklin DR system also offers sophisticated image processing tools, giving the veterinarian much greater depth of information that can be enlarged or manipulated for far better detail. Eklin offers either a 9"x11" sensor panel or the industry’s only full 14"x17" sensor panel. Images can be stored and archived for future evaluation using the Eklin PACS (picture archiving and communications system), which is based on DICOM standards used by hospitals and clinics around the world.

"Auburn has always been known for its excellent patient care and state-of-the-art technology," said Gary R. Cantu, president and CEO of Eklin. "It is exciting for us to be a part of this committed team of veterinary care professionals, providing solutions for their imaging and connectivity needs."
