EKLIN TECHNOLOGY EXPANDS IN GROWING NUMBER OF ZOOS
AND MARINE MAMMAL FACILITIES Eklin Digital Practice™ Provides DR Capture, Archiving and
Review Solutions for Exotic Animal Veterinary Care
Santa Clara, Calif. October 24, 2007 Eklin Medical
Systems, a leading provider of digital radiography (DR) and image management
for the veterinary care market, announced it is installing the Eklin Digital
Practice™ at four new zoo and marine facilities. The Brookfield
Zoo, Columbus Zoo, Georgia Aquarium and Kansas City Zoo join a growing
list of exotic animal veterinary care providers in bringing state-of-the-art
DR imaging, archiving and review capabilities to their patients. The company
is showcasing the Eklin Digital Practice at the annual American Association
of Zoo Veterinarians (AAZV) meeting being held October 23-25, 2007 in
Knoxville, Tennessee.
“Since our initial exotic animal installation of the Eklin Digital
Practice at the San Diego Zoo and Animal Wildlife Park a couple of years
ago, we have seen tremendous interest in our scaleable technology,”
said Gary R. Cantu, president and CEO of Eklin. “The ability to
get a superb radiographic image instantly, plus immediately store, review
and communicate that image, provides these unique practices with superior
digital solutions in caring for their highly valued animals.”
Just as digital cameras have made photography easier and more efficient
by eliminating film, DR systems provide the clinician with a radiographic
image that can be viewed immediately onsite or at a review workstation,
including a high-resolution monitor, without the need for film development.
DR systems also offer sophisticated image processing tools, giving the
clinician much greater depth of information that can be enlarged or manipulated
for far better detail, resulting in closer scrutiny of potential areas
of concern. Depending on imaging needs, the clinician has a choice of
either a 9”x11” or 14”x17” imaging sensor panel.
The latter provides the largest full imaging surface in the portable DR
market.
“We have worked with many zoo and marine mammal veterinarians in
developing appropriate imaging solutions for their practices,” said
Cantu. “The Eklin system can be used with the smallest tree frog
or the largest elephant. Bottom line, it offers unparalleled workflow
efficiencies and exquisite diagnostic image quality, all key for these
busy facilities.”
Other marine mammal facilities using the Eklin Digital Practice include
SeaWorld, U.S. Navy Marine Mammal Training Center and Dolphin Cay at Atlantis
Paradise Island. In addition to San Diego, zoos with Eklin technology
include Sacramento, Denver, the Bronx, St. Louis and several others.
